Tooth extractions involve carefully removing a tooth from its socket. We always aim to save your natural teeth wherever possible, but in some cases, an extraction is the best option. If a tooth is too damaged, cracked, or causing persistent problems, removal may be necessary to protect your oral health.

Tooth replacement options, such as implants, bridges, or dentures, can be discussed if you’d like to fill the gap afterwards.

We’ll always ensure your comfort during the procedure. Local anaesthetic is used, and we won’t begin until you’re completely numb. Most extractions are quick and simple, but occasionally a surgical approach is needed. Whatever the case, we take things gently, create a calm environment, and take breaks whenever you need them.

We always test the area and won’t begin until you confirm you’re numb.

Tooth Removal

The tooth is gently loosened and removed – you may feel some pressure but no pain.

Pack the Area

You’ll be asked to gently bite down on a gauze pack to help stop bleeding.

Aftercare Advice

You’ll go home with spare packs and clear aftercare instructions to support healing.

Dental Extraction FAQs

No. We make sure the area is fully numb before we begin. You might feel some pressure or movement, but not pain.

You can choose a dental implant, bridge or denture. We’ll talk you through your options during your visit.

Most people return to work the next day. If your extraction was more complex, or your job is physically demanding, you may want a day or two to rest. We’ll advise you on the day.

Wait until the numbness has worn off before eating. For the first 24 hours, stick to soft, lukewarm foods and chew on the other side. Avoid hot drinks, alcohol, smoking and using a straw, as these can disturb healing.

A dry socket happens when the blood clot in the socket is lost or doesn’t form, leaving the bone exposed. It can be painful and usually starts two to four days after the extraction. Following your aftercare advice lowers the risk. If your pain is getting worse rather than better, call us and we’ll see you.
